Being Different - Chapter 1

× Introduction ×

There were days, when you could go out, just have fun with your friends and just do stuff. But there came days, when you had to stay inside and just entertain yourself. Luckily there weren’t many of those days. It was more peoples fault, if they wouldn't go out and enjoy the day.

And one of those people was dressed in dark, with dark brown hair and piercing blue eyes, girl called Zakiah. She was one of those people, who rather stayed in, just to avoid annoying comments and people who run around for no reason. Zakiah Eld was just different from others. She had a few very close friends but that was mostly all. She didn’t hang out with her friends in the middle of the shopping mall just to let others know where she is and what she’s doing. She preferred calm small places that were absolutely private. And her friends were almost the same way. If they weren’t, would they be even friends?

Zakiah never trusted people. And she had no reason to. When she was a little child, she lost her parents while they were fighting with a murderer. That mans intention was to kill little Zakiah, knowing she’s a threat to the world. Or maybe just to him? She was a threat however put it. She was put in an orphanage, where she got beaten up many times, not just once. She had to do many worlds’ most awful jobs. When she was about fifteen yeas old, she ran away. She was old enough to get a normal job and she did finish Primary school. And she got herself a nanny job. That family got fond of her and adopted her in a few weeks of work by them. She got herself a family as well. Nice, huh?

Anyway, that family insisted at continuing her school. She didn’t have much choice and knew it’ll be better for her as well. So she started school along with that family’s oldest son, Corey. Corey was a nice guy and got along best with Zakiah. Corey had coloured short black hair, greyish-blue eyes and wasn’t much taller than Zakiah, just for about 5 or 6 cm. By the way, Zakiah was 167 cm tall. So Corey introduced Zakiah to some of his friends. He was the one who was longer on that school. Zakiah got to know Matt and Ebony Blythe, Jamie, Daniel and Mary Higgins, Devin Breen and Charna, Lux and Anna Charbonneau. Matt, Jamie, Charna and Ebony were same year as Zakiah was, while Mary was one year older, Daniel and Devin with Corey along were two years older. Lux was two years younger and Anna three years younger.

They immediately accepted Zakiah as one of them and Charna especially. They became best friends; even better friends than Zakiah was with Corey. That was funny for others because everybody knew she was the toughest one to get through to. And yet she opened herself to Zakiah. She had seen something different in her. She knew her like she had known her forever and read her in a short time when she saw her for the first time. Charna had black very long hair with pale skin and green eyes to fulfil the whole image. She was relatively small, 162 cm she had. Charna was mostly dressed in black and red, purple or some other colour with that standard black.

Matt and Ebony were some funny people. They were always making jokes. Matt had light brown hair with dark brown eyes and Ebony was totally opposite, dark brown hair with light brown eyes. They were almost the same height: Matt 175 cm and Ebony 172 cm. Both of them were also so skinny! Most of their friends were joking around that they are going to break into two pieces, if they make one wrong move. So they were used to it and didn’t say anything on Zakiah’s words: “Damn you’re skinny!” They just laughed.

Jamie, Daniel and Mary were also a kind of their own. Jamie had coloured black with green bangs in front hair. That went great with his drop-dead-gorgeous green eyes. He wasn’t any particularly tall; just 165 cm. Daniel was more of a serious one in the gang. Well, that’s the picture he gave away when he was out in the world. Within the safety of his friends, was he just as fun as Matt and Ebony if he had the day. He had short brown hair made into spikes and blue eyes. He was Devin’s height, that was 180 cm, one or two cm up or down. Anyhow, Daniel was the most “normal” guy of them. He was a smart guy, as were all of the Higgins children. Mary had till waist long light brown hair and blue eyes. She was ordinary girl-next-door. She was slim and quite tall, 169 cm.

Lux was Charna’s younger brother. Had really short dark hair with blue eyes and still going to Primary School, so he wasn’t many times with the gang but was still one of them, like Anna. She had medium long light brown hair with bluish –green eyes. Lux was 150 cm tall and Anna was for just 5 cm shorter.

Aaa…Well, Devin was a completely different story. He was 180 cm tall gorgeous boy with black hair with bangs that only the darkest night can match and brown eyes that not even the sweetest and best chocolate of the world could put a candle to. He was rather skinny and yet not so much. He was a ravishing young man that most of the girls adored to look at and daydream about him, imagining how they would look with him and anxious to know how he treats his girlfriends.

He was really something. Or so most of the girls who didn't know him thought. He was just a normal person, a teenage boy among his friends. Mostly he showed a mask and even when he was with his friends too, just a different one. More open and yet, not open enough. No one ever knew what is really going through his mind. Only him, his thoughts and the shadow in which he used to cry and to which he said everything.
